RTV MOLDING AND CAST URETHANE PROTOTYPES

In under two weeks, InterPRO can deliver plastic prototypes with material properties similar to production plastics.

We do this with RTV molding, which produces cast urethane or epoxy prototypes with the look and feel of injection molded parts.

The benefits of RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanized) molding are:

  • Functional prototypes with complex features
  • Fast delivery compared to injection molded prototypes
  • Relatively low cost compared to direct RP
  • Very low cost compared to injection mold tooling process
  • A wide range of material properties to choose from
  • Cast-in color that is blended to your specification
  • Accuracy that is on par with rapid prototypes
  • Zero Draft and/or small undercuts are not a problem
  • Shore A, Shore D, bio-compatible, flame-resistant, UL rated and clear materials are available
  • Inserts can be cast into the part for maximum strength
  • Delivery of parts usually in 2 weeks or less

To produce molds using the RTV molding process, we start with a master pattern that is made with RP or CNC.

Liquid silicone rubber is poured around the master pattern. Once the silicone is cured, the mold is cut open to remove the master pattern. The mold is then used to cast the urethane parts.

InterPRO casts all parts under a vacuum with molding machines using computer control. This allows us to produce produce void-free castings with consistent properties in each part.

Colors are cast in, matching your specifications. Paint, texturing and/or graphics can be added.
